You may find this story hard to swallow, but a 2-year-old Brazilian boy has around 50 metal sewing needles inside his body and his doctor said they were apparently stuck there one by one.
Surgeons hope to remove most of the needles, but some are as long as 2 inches, and some are stuck in his lungs, so they will wait until the child's breathing improves.
But even when his breathing improves, some cannot be removed because they are too close to vital organs or actually inside them.
The boy's mother brought him to a hospital saying he was complaining of pain. (really?)
Three days later, after X-rays revealed some of the needles. (three days?)
The mother told police she doesn't know how the needles got inside her son, but police have opened an investigation.
The boy's father, Gessivaldo Alves, seems to have an interesting theory.
He believes his son could have been a victim of a black magic ritual.
Alves said he visited the home where the boy was living with his mother and stepfather and found unspecified items that could be used for black magic,
Doctors think the needles were stuck into the child's body one by one because it would have been impossible for him to swallow them.
"We think it could have only been by penetration because we found needles in the lung, the left leg and in different parts of the thorax. It couldn't have been by ingestion," the doctor said.
But, doctors found no signs of outside wounds on the boy, however, X-ray images (seen above) clearly showed some of the needles inside his body.
The boy is in intensive care, but doctors say his condition has improved since he was admitted.

NYC Department of Health Anti-Soda Campaign
The Department of Health in New York City has released a YouTube commercial with the intention of horrifying people.
New York's attempts to fight calories has now been reduced to the drinking of human fat out of a soda can.
The city's "Don't drink yourself fat" campaign is just one of many promoting healthier lifestyles for the area's millions of residents.
"Sugary drinks shouldn't be a part of our everyday diets," said Dr. Thomas Farley, New York City Health Commissioner. "This video is playful, but its message is serious."
Sorry Department of Health people, we think your video is stupid sensationalism.
We guess Dr. Farley, has given up trying to educate people about food options, choosing instead to be disgusting and revolting.

Miami hotel moves 300 guests due to water-borne bacteria
The EPIC Hotel, an upscale hotel, opened just a year ago in downtown Miami has moved 300 guests after a bacteria in its water is suspected in one death and two hospitalizations.
One European guest died in September and two others were sent to the hospital in November and December. The Miami-Dade County health department said the problem at the EPIC hotel was the bacteria Legionella pneumophila, which causes Legionnaires' disease.
Authorities said they believed the installation of a powerful water filter at the hotel, which was to remove chlorine from tap water, allowed the bacteria to grow in the water system.
The health department is calling an it an outbreak
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention describes the cause of the disease:"People get Legionnaires' disease when they breathe in a mist or vapor that has been contaminated with the bacteria."
There may have been contamination, because chlorine levels at Epic are too low, said county health experts.
Still, the hotel has not been confirmed as the source of the disease.
Bruce Rubin, a spokesman for Epic, issued a statement that read in part: "The EPIC Hotel has voluntarily partnered with the Miami-Dade Health Department to notify guests and staff of the possible presence of bacteria in its water system."
"EPIC is working towards a quick and thorough resolution to the water issue, and looks forward to welcoming its guests back as soon as possible."

Dairy, Meat Prices Will Double Food Inflation, Wells Fargo Says
Here it comes - milk, beef, pork and chicken prices will double the pace of U.S. food inflation next year said Michael Swanson, a senior economist at Wells Fargo.
It's possible that food prices may jump as much as 6 percent in 2010, Swanson said.
Why you ask?
It seems the producers of cattle, pigs, dairy cows and poultry cut production after feed costs went up last year, reducing supplies as demand for meat is rising at home and abroad. (it's true PETA)
Corn, the main source of animal feed, will see a record demand for grain to make ethanol.
“Protein inflation is going to be much higher than people are anticipating,” Swanson said.
Here's a thumbnail sketch of the information that we picked up on Bloomberg:
Wholesale-pork prices in the U.S. are up 27 percent this year, heading for the first annual gain since 2004. Farmers, hurt by two straight years of losses, are cutting the domestic breeding herd to the smallest level since the USDA started collecting the data in 1964. Chicken output is sliding in the U.S., where the number of eggs placed into incubators each week is headed to the lowest quarterly average since 2002.
Smithfield Foods Inc., the world’s largest hog producer, has had four straight quarterly losses. Last week, the company reported a loss of $26.4 million loss in the three months ended Nov. 1.
The Smithfield, Virginia-based processor has reduced the size of its breeding herd by 13 percent, or 130,000 sows, which will cut the number of market hogs it raises by more than 2.2 million annually, Larry Pope, the chief executive officer, said Dec. 10 during a conference calls with analysts.
Beef
The U.S. beef-breeding herd on July 1 totaled 32.2 million head, down 1.4 percent from 32.65 million a year earlier, and was the smallest since the government started collecting data in 1971, the USDA said July 24. The number of dairy cows fell 2.4 percent to 9.098 million head at the end of October from a year earlier, reaching the smallest monthly total since December 2005, the USDA said last month.
Dairy
Dairy prices will rise as much as 20 percent, leading the increase in food costs.
Chicken and vegetable-oil prices will rise 7 percent to 9 percent in 2010.
The accelerated pace of food inflation has been set in motion by last year’s grain rally and this year’s drop in livestock herds and poultry flocks.
Rising energy costs also will contribute to the gains.
Food manufacturers and restaurants will be hurt the hardest, they will have to find a way to manage the price increases by either cutting costs or raising their prices.

Girlfriend Arrested Over Grits Attack
The holiday season seems to always bring the best out of people, doesn't it?
A 44-year-old woman has been arrested and booked with second-degree battery after pouring a pot of boiling grits onto her sleeping boyfriend.
The lovely Carolyn Brown (above photo) caused second-degree burns on her sleeping boyfriend's face and arms.
He told deputies that he came home from work, he got into an argument with Brown, he told her that he was breaking up with her, then went to bed.
It was then she got busy in the kitchen.
Grits are a favorite grain dish in the South, and are usually eaten as a breakfast dish, and sometimes used to pour over a sleeping boyfriend.
We aren't sure how Carolyn cooked her grits but here's a simple way for you to prepare your grits.
Time Required: 45 minutes (or until your victim falls asleep)

Monkey Meat Probation
A Liberian woman (seen above) who was caught smuggling monkey meat through customs has been sentenced to 3 years probation.
Mamie Manneh was arrested back in 2006 after agents discovered a shipment of dozens of primate parts hidden in a batch of smoked fish.
The boxes included the skulls, limbs and torsos of monkeys and baboons.
A visit two days later from U.S. Fish and Wildlife uncovered a small hairy arm which she identified as "monkey" which she received as "as a gift from God in heaven." Later, she backed down on the claim that she didn't import the meat and claimed that eating it was a religious expression which should be protected by the first amendment.
Manneh's lawyers argued that she and other Liberian immigrants in the New York City borough of Staten Island needed the meat for religious reasons.
Her fellow church members from Christ Memorial Christian Church on Staten Island and a number of academic experts supported her, although her minister did not
Prosecution witnesses testified that primate meat could lead to the spread of diseases, including Ebola, measles, tuberculosis, monkeypox and retroviruses similar to HIV.
Federal prosecutors accused Ms. Manneh of breaking all kinds of federal laws by illegally importing 65 pieces of smoked bushmeat, including primate parts, into the country in January 2006.
Ms. Manneh and members of Christ Memorial Christian Church, maintained that eating primate parts conforms with their religious beliefs. Doing so connects them with the cunning and agile animal’s spiritual power while also helping them "get closer to God."
The judge ultimately gave Manneh a lighter sentence, because,
she has 11 children and is mentally ill.
